The 1997 Bolivian presidential election took place on 1 June 1997. The election took place on the same day as the 1997 Bolivian legislative election. No candidate won over half of the vote, therefore the National Congress of Bolivia elected the president from the two candidates who had received the most votes in the election. Hugo Bánzer Suarez was elected president.
